
Mike McDaniel parents may not have reached his current success if he had taken a more traditional path – an internship at an investment banking firm. Instead, football took hold and became his passion, leading him to dedicate himself fully to it.
His journey has led him to the NFL, a place he never could have imagined himself in. And now, as captain of the Miami Dolphins for 13 years, he leads them back into the postseason for the first time in their 13 year history.

McDaniel has made several noteworthy accomplishments as the Dolphins’ head coach, including his emphasis on mental and emotional aspects of football. As such, his approach has earned him widespread praise.

McDaniel began his professional career with the Denver Broncos, serving under head coach Mike Shanahan for six seasons. Following that, he joined Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak’s staff.
McDaniel rejoined Shanahan in 2011 when he joined Washington as an offensive assistant, working alongside various NFL coaches like Kyle Shanahan, Matt LaFleur and Sean McVay.
McDaniel experienced a range of emotions during his first season as Miami’s head coach. He laughed during quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s charity luau, held back tears when Tagovailoa was briefly hospitalized and then helped the team win five games.
He’s a Mad Scientist
McDaniel has spent most of his 17-year NFL career as an assistant coach, beginning as an intern with the Denver Broncos in 2005 before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. Additionally, he spent time in the United Football League (UFL), working with teams such as Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers before being named head coach of Miami Dolphins in February 2022.
In 2022, he made his head coaching debut and guided Miami to a 20-7 victory against New England Patriots – their first victory under any head coach since Nick Saban in 2005.
McDaniel is an incredibly intelligent individual who has been immersed in science his entire life. His primary research areas include Endocrinology, Insulin, Islet and Cell Biology.

As a young man, his family had to work hard in order for him to support them. His mother Donna worked as a credit consultant at Monfort Beef in Greeley as a single mom while raising him with hard work and devotion.
As a result, she needed to find ways to raise her son and guarantee his safety. It was during this period that she met a man of another race, whom she eventually married.
Eventually, she married him and they had a child together. Unfortunately, some members of her family did not accept their union due to its race; therefore, she had to leave home in Colorado with her son in order to raise him in a safe environment with access to top-notch education.
